Technology for Fun
Caroline Alliston is a STEM educator. She is a professional design and development engineer with a degree from Cambridge and 24 years’ experience in industry. Several years ago she started a STEM club at her sons’ school to show the children how much fun science and engineering can be. Before long there were more children on the waiting list than in the actual club and demands from many groups for her to run workshops!
Unable to be in three places at once, she wrote the 'Technology for Fun' series of books incorporating her favourite and most successful projects, to give even more children the opportunity to have fun making things that really work. In 2016 she was commissioned by Quarto Publishing to author 'Built It!'
She now focusses on running teacher CPD sessions and workshops for STEM ambassadors to help them inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists. She also develops kits and resources to support the teachers and STEM ambassadors in achieving this.
In 2015 Caroline received the Alastair Graham Bryce award from the IMechE, and in 2016 the Stephenson Award from the Worshipful Company of Engineers for her "significant contributions inspiring and encouraging children towards a career in engineering".
Caroline has been invited to showcase her inspirational STEM projects both in the UK and overseas.
